Assessment Services
Clear answers. Practical support. A plan that fits you.
At RK Counselling & Psychology, we offer psychological assessments to help better understand a person’s strengths, challenges, support needs, and next steps.
Each assessment is tailored to the person, using evidence-based tools, clinical insight, and information from relevant people in their life. After the assessment, you will receive a clear written report with practical recommendations, along with a feedback session to talk through the findings.
Autism & ADHD Assessments
Understanding neurodevelopmental differences
An Autism or ADHD assessment helps build a clearer picture of how a person thinks, learns, communicates, focuses, and manages day-to-day life.
The process is thorough, supportive, and designed to gather information from several sources. This may include written intake forms, standardised questionnaires, clinical interviews, observations, and reports from family members, teachers, or other professionals.
After all information has been gathered, the results are reviewed and interpreted to form a diagnostic opinion where appropriate. You will receive a detailed report with practical recommendations, followed by a feedback session to discuss the outcome and answer any questions.
Please note: Some NDIS applications for Autism may require a multidisciplinary diagnosis involving more than one professional, such as a psychologist and paediatrician. We can work alongside other members of your care team where needed.
Cognitive Assessments
Understanding thinking and learning strengths
A cognitive assessment looks at how a person thinks, solves problems, remembers information, processes tasks, and understands the world around them.
This type of assessment can help identify intellectual strengths, areas where support may be needed, giftedness, or possible intellectual disability.
The assessment may include an intake questionnaire, a clinical interview, and standardised cognitive testing such as the WISC-V for children or the WAIS-IV for adults. These tools explore areas such as verbal reasoning, working memory, processing speed, and visual-spatial skills.
Where helpful, information may also be gathered from teachers, employers, family members, or other professionals. The final report explains the results in clear language and includes practical recommendations. A feedback session is included to go through the findings and next steps.
Non-Verbal Cognitive Assessments
Fair assessment without relying heavily on language
A non-verbal cognitive assessment may be suitable for people who are not best assessed using traditional language-heavy tests.
This can include people with limited speech, communication differences, additional language needs, or those who speak English as an additional language.
The process focuses on visual problem-solving and hands-on tasks rather than verbal responses. It may include an intake questionnaire, clinical interview, standardised non-verbal cognitive testing such as the UNIT-2 or WNV, and input from others where appropriate.
The goal is to assess cognitive ability in a fair and accurate way. You will receive a clear report outlining the results, what they mean, and any recommended supports. A feedback session is also included.
Psychoeducational Assessments
Support for learning, school, and study
A psychoeducational assessment explores both cognitive skills and academic achievement. It can help identify learning strengths, learning difficulties, and the types of support that may help at school, university, or in other learning environments.
This assessment may be useful when there are concerns about reading, writing, maths, attention, school progress, or overall learning development.
The process may include an intake questionnaire, a clinical interview, cognitive testing such as the WISC-V, and academic testing such as the WIAT-III. Information from teachers or schools may also be included where available.
The final report brings these findings together to provide a clear profile of learning strengths and challenges. It includes practical recommendations for school support, intervention planning, and future learning needs. A feedback session is provided to explain the results and recommendations.
Functional Capacity Assessments
Understanding everyday support needs
A functional capacity assessment looks at how a person manages everyday activities across different areas of life.
This may include communication, self-care, learning, social skills, independence, emotional regulation, and participation at home, school, work, or in the community.
This type of assessment can be especially useful when applying for or reviewing supports through systems such as the NDIS.
The process may include an intake questionnaire, clinical interview, standardised tools such as the Vineland-3, and input from caregivers, teachers, support workers, or other relevant people.
The final report provides a strengths-based picture of the person’s abilities, challenges, and support needs. It includes clear recommendations, with a feedback session to discuss the findings.
